    [Disclaimer:]  This entry was written in response to a conversation I recently had with a "friend" who said my xanga portrayed me as a 10 year old fool and someone who just drinks, smokes, & parties.


    This is the "real" me, unedited for MY viewing pleasure:

    Taken early this morning.


    Epiphany:

    When I first signed up for my xanga account I used the name "Sup007" not "LanNguyen". ....Why?.... because xanga is just ONE mask of who I am.  Out of the many online journals I read, very few are a true reflection of the person typing away at the keyboard.

    Are you really who you portray yourself to be on xanga?

    You can be anything you want to be on xanga........a poet, a drunk, an artisit, a partyer, a saint, a photographer, a bitch, a teacher, an asshole, a lover, a fucker, a comedian, a whiner.  That's the beauty of xanga, you can be whoever you want to be.


    My Typical Day:

    7:00am - Alarm goes off
    7:30am - I wake up finally
    7:35am - Toothbrush & Shower
    8:00am - Sometimes I eat breakfast
    8:30am - I drive to work
    9:00am-1:00pm - I work and check out xanga
    1:00pm - I eat lunch
    2:00pm-6:00pm - I work
    6:05pm - I drive home
    6:30pm - I get home & shower
    7:00pm - Cook dinner or go out and buy dinner
    7:30pm - Free time:
    Watch TV, play video games, go online, or go out with friends
    ~2:00am - Sleep




    Reflection:

    Boring huh? Well it's my life and that's how I choose to live it.  On xanga however I portray myself as a fun, party going, happy go lucky guy because I feel people find it more interesting than the man above.

    I am Sup007.....Sup007 is apart of me.......I'm happy right now and I'm living in my own little happy bubble but there is so much more to me than people realize.  Maybe when I feel more comfortable with myself I'll begin to reveal other aspects of my personality & life.

    I for instance have many faults.  I don't have time to list them here and I'm not ready to share them with you all.....yet.

  • Well written!  I think that's one of the problems with blogs - what you write can come to define you to your readers, whether that was your intention or not.  Combine this with the freedom we feel to just write any old crazy thing, and people can get a skewed sense of who we really are.

  • i've always said, it's your xanga -- you do what you want.  therefore, you present what you want of yourself, and how much you want.  it's annoying when you have to explain yourself on your xanga.

  • duuuude... xangas and other onlines journals are for people's personal use... they can do whatever the hell they want.  i hate it when people give you grief about YOUR xanga... it happened to me before and this "friend" of mine really hurt my feelings... like dude, you worry about YOUR life and i worry about mine... and yea, we all wear certain masks in life... lucky are those who really know the real you... forreals... cuz that's friendship in another level.

    i wrote something almost similar when people started confusing the real me with my online personality.. and thinking that my life is exactly how it is on xanga. SO WRONG!

    even if im not literally a midget anymore.
    i grew out of that, THANK GOD! lol
    but every weblog i`ve written on my xanga (for the past 3 years)
    is a little piece of me, for everyone to see.

    but then again, ppl who fake on xanga are the ppl who fake in real life too. meaning, we're what we are and no matter what the medium is, it tends to show.

  • this is one thing that a majority of xangans cannot understand...xanga is their own space to write whatever they want. Whether you depict yourself accurately on your xanga, that's up to you, but not for anyone else to judge. If people don't like it, they don't have to read.

    What I love about my xanga is that it's an opportunity to express myself in an uncommon way. My thoughts are real, but just because I don't "voice" them out outside of my blogging, it doesn't mean I'm being fake.

  • well, i subscribed to you because of your american dream immigrant christmas story about your family, complete with pictures. I thought you were interesting, real, and fun to read. if i thought you were a "10 year old fool" who smokes and parties (i didn't even know you smoked, btw), i probably wouldn't have subscribed to you (mainly because of the 10 year old fool part and not the smoke and party part). but yeah. i think your cool, Lan. wayyyyy coool. so forget whatever your stupid friend said.

    I HAVE heard of City of God...and all those who have recommended it say it's good!  So yeah, I'mma have to watch it someday...hopefully, soon.  My movie partner (ie:  my bf) isn't into a lot of the more dramatic ones I am.  But it's oK cuz he likes some chick flicks!  hahha.  Thanks for the suggestion, Lan! =]

  • Xanga does allow us to be whoever we choose, but it's quite the same in the real world too. We put a mask on a different situations. For instance, I'm very silly with some of my friends, but hardly ever do I laugh at work. I'm very goofy with my boyfriend, but very controlled in front of my parents. It's just how we respond to our surroundings, right? And you damn well should be who you please (but preferably it will be a side of you).

    And yes, loneliness is going to kick my ass.

  • hehe the way i see it xanga is a good outlet for everyone. i think that people are so into being cool with everyone else that they don't realize they don't really KNOW who that person is. like if you really think about it, are you the one telling your friends everything, or are they always the one ranting to you? i for one am usually the ranter. when i read my friends' pages, i feel like they tell their xanga more than they'd tell me. why they do it, i don't know. i just know that it's still them. maybe they really are a photographer, poet, drunk on the inside =P

    I do have two websites: for the company I run (http://www.dubstersolutions.com), also for the game development studio I have created for me and some friends (http://www.redarmystudios.com). They both suck, but during this weekend I plan to sit down and make them look "pretty", so to say...call me up if you guys do stuff, on the weekends, mostly, i'll be up for it.

  • Can anyone really know who you are through xanga, even if you are 100% honest and do not censor any details of your life?  I think no matter how hard you're willing to share, different people will see you differently because people can't hear yo via xanga; can't feel you through xanga; can't see you using xanga; and most certainly can't sense you.  It takes a lot to know some one, and the written word is but one method.  But people are so complicated that it takes all of our sense to really get to know who someone is.  Besides, as long as you know who you are, that's all that matters.

    That said, are you saying you're not a 10 year old drunk?  :)

  • Thanks for the randomeness...hehe And niiiiice banner! Pretty dope! I've always thought those people looked freaky and scary, but are cool at the same time! hahahah Sorry, I'm weird like that. What'd you expect from a Gemini. I  see things from every angle and from both views! Anyways.....

    As far as your post, I actually blogged about this a while back. I've always mentioned how people can be so different from their protrayal online than in person. I've met a few people recently from xanga and NO i usually am anal when it comes to online stuff with people. So anal, even about giving my SN, Yeah, sn's aren't much but I'm very picky about who I give mine out too. Either way, I"ve always been cautious about that kind of stuff. But once in a blue moon, I do find people exceptionally wonderful and I do end up meeting them.

    Sorry for the tangent there.  I tend to do that...hahaha Anyways....there are a few of those moments, there are those who actually ARE the people they claim to be in person. Which is very refreshing. I don't hate on people who wanna portray someone different on their online persona, but if you want to eventually meet certain people, then there shouldn't be any FRONTIN' you know? But hey, to each their own I guess. But that's just me. I've always been the type (sorry for sounding cliche) to KEEP IT REAL! I'm as REAL as they get. What you see is what you get! I can't be any other way than what I know how to be and that's ME! I mean, there really isn't a point for me to act differently from who I really am. If people don't accept me for who I am than that's their problem and their bad! I'm a fun girl! hahahahahahahahahaha jk See? I'm weird!

     Either way, you can't really tell too much from online anyway. As much as I try to portray the real me, people still can't and won't ever KNOW the real me. Some people think I'm a party girl which I'm sooooo not. I mean there are so many things regardless if it's online or not that people will have misconceptions of you. So, it doesn't really matter where or how you portray yourself, just as long as you don't LOSE yourself! Staying true to yourself is thee most important thing regardless if you wanna make up a fake facade to other people. But, I have a thing with FAKE people though. I can't TOLERATE them! That's why I always make sure I stay away from those kind of people.

    Anyways, enough with the babbling and rambling. Funny, I usually think this happens during my the wee hours at night being a vamp, but I guess I can't escape it...hahahahaha Well, have a good day! Daym, I wrote a novel! sorry again! I tend to do that! Good post!

  • A Xanga may or may not reflect a person's reality; it may or may not be a glimpse into the psyche(s) of its users, but it can't possibly reflect everything that comprises a person.  I've never read an entry of yours that, I'm certain many people agree, doesn't seem to have thought, heart and/or humor behind it.  It seems that your "friend"'s point was rather...pointless.

  • Isn't that really the point of Xanga to be who you want to be with no one to judge you, don't feel as is you have to justify your life to anyone it's yours and no one can take it.  Life is mostly about the perspective with which you enjoy it, so take a step back and realize you may portray your life as more interesting on Xanga or it may be more interesting than you actually realize after all if it has all happened than life is still interesting, it just doesn't feel like that when your there.

    I am over tired and having difficulty explaining so if you don't understand..
