After that warm & fluffy entry yesterday, I thought I'd present:
The Reality of Valentine's Day
Happy February 15th...?
[Note:] Once again I'm not comdemning or praising Valentine's Day.
When Valentine's Day rolls around even the most clueless guy can become the next Don Juan if he has a box of candies & flowers. Guys take the extra step because they know if they fuck up this one day they'll never be forgiven.
On the other hand, if he does what he's supposed to do then he'll be known as a great boyfriend for months.
The thing is.....what happens on the day after Valentine's? The day where flower shops & candy stores are ghost towns, condom sales are down, & restaurants are empty.
The truth is.....for most people everything just goes back to normal. [There are some lucky ones out there though
]
If you thought I'd come up with something profound or mind blowing.....I haven't. This is just the way things are.

Well the city seems to work fast when you least need it to. It's funny a city official came up to our office asking us if we knew who "Micki" was we all of course said no.

I agree with you totally.....it's almost impossible for a person to relay their entire love and affection for another person in one day with traditional gifts....yesterday I told someone who had spent over $350 on a girl who was dating another guy that I'd much rather he get me a card, sign it with a thoughtful note, and save that money to surprise me on any regular day during the year with flowers or something....much more meaningful to me
anyways...just my thoughts....

Hmm...well, things do go back to normal, but normal could be a good thing, couldn't it? Valentine's day is like an orgasm (a really exciting day that you wait a REALLY long time for)...who would want an orgasm that lasted 3 days? Wouldn't that sort of defeat the purpose of how wonderful it is?

it seems so empty and vain when things go back to its normal gear after all that much of hype. you are right about that. But i guess for the ones who really got lucky and got something that they can cherish in their life time....then i guess valentine has its real meaning to them. for me...it's designated for gifts only. and i got one and i'm a happy woman at that!
Even if you do come back to what are considered 'normal' daily actions, what happens on the day of romance will still be an added plus to your cache of memories... and enfused with the happy day energy, it makes it even easier to appreciate the one you've given your heart to. =]
I guess what I'm trying to say is that even if things go back to normal, the added memory will always be there, making your collection of happinesses fuller. =] So it will never be exactly the same as before -- in a good way.
Doesn't only apply with valentines day... but it's a good example =]

I love Valentine's Day :wub:...and I love how it reminds us pause a lil in our daily, busy, mundane lives to show our loved ones a lil affection and appreciation. Although we should do it everyday, the reality is, sometimes we just don't...or don't remember to. It's not just a day for lovers...it's a day for all my loved ones, for me. So yeah, the fact that my bf takes a lil time out to think of me enough to give me a card, a note, a flower, whatever, and to wish me "Happy Valentine's Day!" warms my heart =] Relationships don't sustain themselves...they take a lil work.

after years of realizing everything that you wrote about the day after v-day, i've now come to see it as just a regular day, and another reason to go eat out somewhere nice. i don't like the chocolate thing, or the card thing, and i think flowers are a big waste of money. i like the day because it reminds me of years past when i was still excited about it. like disneyland. i get excited thinking about it, but it does nothing for me as an adult. it's all about what it represents to us, i suppose.

everything does go back to normal. kinda like, how the excitement at the beginning of relationships fizzle out. or maybe when you get back together with someone and it's nice for a while, but goes back to the way it was. yeah ok you get the picture.
