Over the past few months I've been doing segments called "Learn Something New" on my xanga. My goal was to at first inspire people to go out and try new things and then it turned into a way for me to help other people learn new things.

Epiphany:
I've come to realize though that since I've become so entranced by xanga that I haven't given myself enough time to explore other activites I've always wanted to. One of which is to learn how to DJ.
Where did this idea come from though?
I started really listening to music in high school because of the influence of my friends but then my tastes began to become my own and I began to follow the music that I enjoyed. Music that made me smile, touched my soul or massaged my mind.
Yea, I don't know the words to that song either.
I began to grow a huge respect for a DJ who could masterfully mix one beat into another or be able to gauge how a crowd was feeling and play the right song at that perfect moment to keep people out on the dance floor.
Help:
Well anyways, before I start there are two things I was hoping everyone could help me with though:
1) What kind of turntables should I get?
2) What should my DJ name be?
Milestones:
Today I've accomplished two things for the first time:
~I'm #1 on the xanga featured content list.
~I had 2,000 visitors on my sitemeter.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm gloating but I'm pretty proud of both accomplishments.

get technics 1200s tables and a vextax or rain mixer.....and get shure needles, to be on the safe side
def the 1200's. they's the industry standard. Vestax's are ok, but i prefer the japanese-made technics...unless you wanna go for the cd turntables...

dude, i dont have photoshop, and those pictures came from my camera .. i didn't jack em. =P but that's ok, my friend just put some more contrast in them and reduced their sizes. its called teamwork! ha.

Technic 1200 mkII's are the industry standard for vinyl, Pioneer CDJ1000's for CD players. (But the CD players cost 2 or 3x as much) Mixers i think it is a preferential thing I'm not sure really but i hear the DJM600 is nice. Ever since I was 11 I wanted to learn to mix! Sadly I still need to learn... Hmmm.....
As for photography, I'm mostly self-taught. I took one quarter of it in school. The rest I learn from messing around with my camera. =/ I need more classes.............!

I drew that pic you see on my xanga =D and actually, i really was inspired by your xanga cause i think its pretty damn awesome (everything in it is very creative and i dig it <3 )! and also elmo aka undercoverbum and also vy aka vyisfunkyfresh ( i think thats how your spell her name) there's other, but those are the ones that sticks out the most in my mind right now. =)

i have a lot of friends who are dj;s....depends what type of music you wanna play...but yes, music is a big part of our lives....there are so many good songs and classic beats that we grow up over the yrs....each song reminds us of sumthing
question number one, i know nothing about turntables, so i'm going to go with nice ones.
question number two, dj names are always so clever. play on words kind of thing. i'm not creative enough with words, so i would go with just dj...yea that's bad. disregard all the that...

I call myself as Dj Drifted. It's really your personality or your "woo" that derrives your DJ name. Roland turntables are good hands down. But they're costly. If you want to know more jss prop back. (random props). peace.

1. I don't know what turn tables are. lol
2. I guess you can have any name as a DJ. I mean my cousin's name is Nam. But when he's working in clubs, he's known as DJ Filet MigNam. lol. It still cracks me up. But he's really good. I guess if you can make it big as a steak... you can make it as anything.

I'm with you - I have a great deal of respect for DJs. Not in the "I bow down to you because you're so great" kind of respect, but the "damn, I wish I could do that" kind of respect. Like you said, to listen to at least two different tracks, and gauge the crowd, is harder than it seems.

I have always wanted to get into a little bit of turntablism. I used to be a DJ groupie back in my hey day. I don't know if that's anything I should be proud to admit but yeh. I just have a big love for music.

Holy Christ...I can't find any disparaging remarks whatsoever. If Xanga is an art, then you have seemingly committed to it whole-heartedly and deserve all the acclaim you've received. ryc: When I say your pictures are "canned"...it means that it's all premeditated and planned and concocted...that it's really not a natural, of the moment picture. But that's your method--not that it's good or bad.
