Boys & Girls Club of Irvine, CA
This event was actually from last year but I never got around to posting up pictures or writting about it. With all the funny entries lately I thought I’d try to talk about something of a little more substance.
Background:
In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them.
Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.
It’s are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. They are truly The Positive Place For Kids.
Damn I wish I had a room like this in my apartment.

One of my favorite activities at the Boys & Girls club was the art room. It’s amazing how little kids can just sit for an hour and just be content with just a box of crayons and paper.
Makes me wonder why I spend all this money on video games sometimes.
The cool thing about kids is that once one kid does something they all do. Well Ariana (The girl in the purple) and I earlier in the day had played some pool and so she drew me a picture for me (bottom left). Well all the other kids were jealous and started drawing me pictures also.

Tell me your Future:
Well I wanted to give something to Ariana so I made her a fortune teller. Does anyone remember these? I loved doing these when I was a little kid. I think I’ll post up a tutorial on how to make them later.

People have been asking me where I get all my ideas and I’ve decided to let you in on a little secret. I steal all my ideas from little kids….muaahahahaahah…..”just playing” the real reason is that I’m high all the time.

The Pinoy Santa:
What many people don’t know is my roomate was a world class violinist in high school. He was a part of an orchestra that got to tour around europe and the US.
He decided to bring his violin and play Christmas songs and when I heard those notes hit the air from the other room I ran to see him in action. The amazing thing was as he played, more & more children gathered around him……

I’m sad that one of the girls I’ve been attached to, and vice versa, (get your mind outta the gutter) has left the B&G club. Oh well… thats a good thing right? Now she can spend more time with the folks.

Your xanga entry about the boys and girls club brought back some horrible memories of a past experience I had there when I was little. Now I’m crying and I can’t stop. Thanks asshole, I’m just kidding. ANYWAY
I was swimming in the pool, or pretending to swim because I didn’t know how to swim. anyhow I almost drowned. GO ME! I was so brilliant back then, going intothe deep end when I didn’t even know how to swim or even float
I was an afterschool program leader for a long time; hardest job I’ve ever had; those kids also probably wanted to be on camera. haha.
p.s. it looks as if you have all the hot xanga babes commenting on your site. haha, e-pimp it up. i need some hot xanga dudes. damnit.

I volunteer at our local library by going to various elementary schools and reading to kindergartners, and afterwords I usually do a craft project with them that pertains to the story or main character. It’s amazing to see their eyes totally light up, and truthly it takes sooo very little to bring out the best in them.

haha that was great. reminded me a lot of my day care days. i did all that stuff and more =o we used to torture the guy who played with us though, cause well he got paid to play with us. =X
it’s so nice to work with kids! they don’t expect much out of you! i’m a volunteer for the everybody wins program in which you read to the one student that you’re designated to for the entire semester.
and this is why when i turn 40, i aim to become a teacher. but while i’m young, i gotta learn some things from the business world!

I’ve only worked with old people. Err…the “elderly”. They’re cool until they start to freak you out with their strange comments. They don’t like to pay attention when I teach them how to make little crafts either…sigh*! At least I try.

When I was in a volunteering club in the olden days, i remember volunteering at one of those centres for kids, and it’s very invigorating to just be around little kiddies and letting them have fun. no worries in the world or anything. just a place to chill and not stress about the small things.
and hey, the fortunes don’t lie, yo! you STINK!

Yess todaay was a wonderful day…but not the bad news though. It was pretty chilly out today…i enjoyed it though..=] awws the boys and girls club…looks reallly enjoyable! i loove kidss! .. wished i was in a program like that so i could be around kids all day..or with babies…i loove infants!

yes, there is a stain on my dad’s eye as well as on two spots on his jacket and shirt. i tried using a feathered mask and adjusting brightness and contrast as well as copying from good portions of the image but it just did not work.
Is that one kid where an Armani Exchange shirt? wow.. must be some lucky kid.. kid with style haha.
Fat Pens I love those! I always play with them at Limited Too. (don’t laugh!)They have some pretty cute stuff there.

I used to love, love, love going to the local boys & girls club! … my fave memory was going through the haunted house that was set up there one year for hallowe’en – so scary! … You seem really good with kids!

I always think that it’s friggin’ awesome when people are good with kids. Shows that you can have fun, and it shows that you’ve got patience (because let’s face it, kids are pretty damn exhausting). Thumbs up, dude.
i go to the boys and girls club all the time. the children their call me mommy, i love them. in fact, i went today! i’m planning a carnival for them soon.

I LOVE that you’re into community work. It’s realllly admirable. BTW, although it would’ve looked mean on the resume if I took my super’s place, I AM a full time college student right now, too.. wow… good man. i used to volunteer at a training center (place for people with physical/mental disability) quite a lot in high school, but don’t have time now, with work and life… i wish i had the time for things like that nowadays

And watching someone play an instrument like the violin, when they really really really know how is amazing. It makes you wish you knew how to play something too. I always want to rush out & take some classes.

Ohh that’s sweet that you spent a day with these children. Does this club happen every week? It’s such a good idea for kids… they need somewhere safe, to chill and have fun at the same time It’s really hard these days, kids are no longer able to play outside in the street so every kid needs a place like this.
